Family portraits inspire Kadir Nelson's illustrations in “Ellington Was Not a Street”

Kadir Nelson, Coretta Scott King Award-winning illustrator, draws from his personal life and memories to create art for the picture book “Ellington Was Not a Street”. The book, written by with poet Ntozake Shange, looks back at the great Black thinkers and innovators who visited her father’s house.
