During the six years that Author M.T. Anderson wrote the two volumes of his historic novel, The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, Traitor to the Nation, Volume I: The Pox Party and The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, Traitor to the Nation, Volume II: The Kingdom on the Waves, he immersed himself in all things 18th century. He read books about the 18th century, and read books that people in the 18th century would have read themselves, so that their way of thinking became native to him.
