Author Kwame Alexander’s book, The Crossover, is in many ways an ode to his father—the young college basketball star, the PhD academic from Columbia, and the man who would offer advice to his son like “You can’t know what you don’t know” or “Don’t hang out with people who have less to lose than you do.” The story is framed through basketball, but is really a story about family, brotherhood, friendship, and the journey from boyhood to manhood.
