Author Judy Blume remembers her father trying to explain to her about menstruation. He told her that, each month, when there was a full moon, this thing happened to all women all over the world. Drawing on her memories and experiences of being a 13-14 year old girl, she wrote Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. As with all of her books, she says she loves the surprise of a book coming together. She knows where she’s starting and where she thinks she’s going, but she trusts that her characters will take her on the journey.
