Author Judy Blume remembers loving the smell of books from as early as the age of 4. Her mother would take her each week—up what seemed like 100 rickety outdoor steps to the children’s room of the library—where she would sit, taking books down from the shelf and sniffing them before opening them. At home, as she grew older, she did the same, discovering new author after author. Her parents were voracious readers and loved books; from them she developed her lifelong love of reading.
