In fifth grade, Author Pam Muñoz Ryan and her family moved to a new neighborhood. She remembers the loneliness of being the new kid, the kid who was too tall, whose feet were too big, whose clothes weren’t right. To cope during these times, she escaped into books. Most days after school, she would ride her bike to the local branch library and fill her bike basket with books, pedaling hard to get home so as to settle into the refuge of a story.
